Hi all!
I just wanted to make a post to see if anyone knows if there's a version switcher out there, like the account switcher where u can switch in game.
I know u have to reload everything to change versions but i just want something that can switch between them without having to close down the instance and reboot it :)
i know it might be hard because of cross version mod support but there's some talented people out there i wouldn't be surprised if it was a thing
if it's not maybe people can look into creating one :)
if you know one pls reply
thanks all <3

The absolute most anyone would probably ever make for this would be an in game gui that lets you choose from specifically the versions of the game you have downloaded and transfer your session token across each game instance.

No matter what, the current game instance WILL have to be closed. That is unless you feel like running 2 minecrafts at the same time.

But even then, you would have to wait for the game to load back up anyways.. So yea, just use the launcher.

Developers (including me) won't create this because this is utterly useless and serves no actual purpose.

It should be pretty easy to make something like this in ~15 minutes using BAT scripts. Implementing it into the game would be more difficult, but once you get a BAT script you can circumvent the launcher and bind the script to a specific keybind if you'd like.
I don't have time to make this now, however if anyone else wants to look into it, here's a good starting point. Don't know if it still works:

Regardless, it would be impossible to avoid the Minecraft loading screen and such without heavy modification and/or running multiple core instances of Minecraft at once, all in different versions.

I don't believe this is possible.

I think that most of the devs here have some kind of idea on how to do this, but there's literally no point in doing it is the issue.

This. Loading minecraft versions is sorta like loading a different game each time. No way for you to circumvent the loading times and such. It takes far too much effort to code into existence a working version switcher that would save ~10 seconds that does almost nothing

Here's a 1.14.4/1.15.1 fabric mod that allows you to connect to any server between 1.13-1.15.1.
https://github.com/Earthcomputer/multiconnect/

I'd advice against using it on Hypixel, as it may (likely) alter how packets are sent as to be "compatible".

They're working to add 1.12.x support soon.
Hopefully this helps.

Well if there was an in-game switcher you would need to reboot Minecraft no matter what, you cannot just get Hypixel to switch it in game when the launcher handles all the versions

your request is jsut not possible. but theres a close alternaive.
i use multiMC and it supports multiple minecraft version that are completely seperate (like if you had 2 completely separate inecrtaft installs)
as such mods and settings dont need any changed for different versions.
these setups are clled "instances" and make their own .minecraft folder

it also supports multiple instances running at the same time. so long as you have the minecraft accounts to support it (aka 2 simultainius instances requires 2 minecraft accounts)

or you just enable the function that keeps the launcher open after the game has started up, so when you need to switch versions you only need to close the game and select the right instalation.

that could work. except when you switch to a older version minecraft will reset your settings. so not so easy if you,ve changed you keymap. but that dosent happen in multimc

1. It's not possible to do it INSIDE your current minecraft windows, due to how JVM works
2. It's niche feature, not so required for hypixel cause hypixel support all versions of minecraft from 1.8 to 1.15

Love how everyone's still going about how it's impossible when I literally showed a mod that does just this.

it's just 1.13 to 1.15.1

The problem is each version is a different jar

The default vanilla launcher configuratoin is not well suited for switching versions. MultiMC is certainly one solution (and is the one I personally use) but if third party launchers are not an option for some people then the vanilla launcher does support setting each version to it's own profile directory.

There is a big difference between protocol compatibility and actually running the version. For example Hypixel is protocol compatible with all releases since 1.8 but we're not technically running those versions of Minecraft. The mod you linked would be the client side equivalent of that.
